interesting thing…I just downloaded 231 and 232 and I finished 231 that has the Spehere emulations and then I started 232 (man this is a long sentence) and IMMEDIATELY noticed the difference in room tone and overall sound.
The dynacaster picks up waaaaaay more room than the Sphere 414 did. And generally speaking, you sound amazing on the Sphere and the dynacaster sounds “meh” in comparison. I mean not even close.
Could have a lot to do with mic position and maybe you processed some but for sure the sphere is miles ahead. I think most people would expect it to be the other way around when it comes to room tone.
Great episode and that sphere sounds exceptional for you and your space.
Thanks, Gary! You are correct in perceiving that I was significantly closer to the Sphere L22 than I was to the DynaCaster 😉 And I _did_ process those 2 mics differently in post as well.
BTW, I was pleasantly surprised that the DynaCaster sounded so good on my voice! I liked A LOT – better than most other comparable mic’s I’ve tried. The on-board gain boost is a great feature and I’m wondering if/how much that enhanced the sound quality, if at all.
yes, I liked the dynacaster..no complaints about it. But that Sphere sounded sooooo good. Of course, it should for the cost. I was just more surprised at the room tone in both.
we live in good times for audio…well..or bad if you’re like me and want to buy everything!
my wife would characterize it as a “dark period of fiscal disruption”
