I’ve used Ringr in the past and it’s a good platform for recording podcast interviews over the internet. Also check out two other posts I wrote about Ringr: Ringr for Recording Guests Online, and My Frustration with Ringr.
They recently announced some major updates to their service:
- No more waiting for audio uploads. Once your call is over, it’s over. Both sides can close the app or the browser window immediately and without worry.
- RINGR now works on mobile browsers. While the RINGR Mobile app is still amazing, your guest can now use their phone or tablet without downloading it.
- Connecting is more seamless than ever. Thanks to a completely rebuilt platform, RINGR connects and syncs no matter the network, device, or operating system.
How do you get the new RINGR? If you use RINGR on your desktop or laptop, do nothing. You’re good to go. If you use the RINGR Mobile app, make sure you’ve downloaded the latest version from the App Store or Google Play.
Have you used Ringr? What was your experience?

I emailed them about this and let them know that I’m happy to see the innovation, but that I had some questions because of my previous experience. I haven’t heard back yet, but this is what I was wondering about.
1. Does “Studio Quality” still record at 22.05 kHz and then just upsample for exports at 44.1 and 48 kHz?
2. Does the scheduling interface now allow for a reschedule rather than having to delete and restart?
3. When you say it works on mobile devices , does that mean that you’ve been able to crack the WebRTC support for iOS and Safari/Chrome? (and does that also include Safari on Mac)?
4. Have you been able to add a “green room” or chat feature to help guests troubleshoot if they’re having difficulty with their audio settings?
5. Is there any roadmap for live streaming (either video or audio only) during a recording session?
I used Ringr once about a year ago and while it worked great in all my pre-interview tests, the guest had so much trouble getting the mobile app to work on their end that I decided to look around for alternatives. Switched to SquadCast and never had issues since (even had iOS users record without a problem using Chrome).
