I work off of this small drive for all my current and recent session files. It’s a G-Technology 1TB G-DRIVE mobile SSD R-Series.
Although I never unplug it or even move it or take it on the road, etc., one of the reasons I purchased it was for its portability. It’s very small – smaller than a mobile phone.
And since it has 1TB of storage, it’s only about once every six months that I have to delete older files to make room for new session files.

Just got a new mac mini and sprung for a super hub by CalDigit for some expandability https://amzn.to/2NKPkp9
I have 4 USB drives, none are SSD and one is 10TB. Going to try and ‘organize’ and make 10TB drive my main storage device – removing it from router and connecting it directly.
I use a Dropbox folder for sessions I’m working on. This allows me to continue working on my iMac or laptop when I need to move around.
When the session if finished, it goes to an external RAID drive, which is also backed up to another drive and the cloud.
I have the small (3Tb) external hard drives attached to the iMac for Timemachine and plug one into my MacBookPro every night.
When on extended location recording (especially if video is involved), I use and external Wi-Fi disc from WD. This has an SD card reader which automatically stores the files off an SD card when inserted. I can also beam over any files from a Wi-fi enabled recorder/camera/phone. Using the Wi-fi it will also back up into the cloud. There’s a battery in it, so I don’t need mains or another power source to drive it – and there’s a USB socket so I have extra external power if I need it.
