Piecing Together Several Segments of One Interview…
…due to participants dropping off and stopping/restarting the recording.
When you’re finished recording, you can assemble all the segments in your DAW and be sure the pieces of each separate recorded segment are synchronized with each other.
You can also remove any space between segments so they flow together well.

I tend to do this on most podcasts.
At the end, after the thank you and goodbyes, we ask the guest if there was anything they wanted to get across and missed out. Usually there is. So we record some further questions/answers and then stitch them into the interview.
Sometimes after the interview and whilst the recorder is still on, in the wind up conversation there are some gems – the guest can be more relaxed and more natural. We have sometimes dropped in questions later and used the outtake recording to add to the interview, with the guest’s permission, of course.
