What Are Your Favorite Plugins for Podcast Production?

Please share in the comments below what your favorite audio plugins are for podcast production.

Here are my four (!) favorites: (NOTE: For cleaning up audio files I always use iZotope RX 7 which is invaluable, but the plugins I list below are my favorite MIXING plugins)

  1. bx_console Focusrite SC from Plugin Alliance (a channel strip of extremely high audio quality — a bit expensive but it’s amazing — has EQ, compressor, filters, gate, de-esser/exciter, analog mode, etc.)
  2. Aquamarine 4 from Acustica Audio (a two-stage compressor which sounds amazing — I use this on a subgroup containing all voices on each episode)
  3. Vocal Rider from Waves (extremely handy for use on guests who are way too dynamic — it automatically rides their volume to bring down loud parts and bring up quiet parts)
  4. soothe2 from Oeksound (an extremely handy and intelligent de-esser)

What are your favorites? Tell me below in the comments 😉

  1. Plug-ins are a bit like menus – you got to keep changing them to make life interesting.

    My current are:-

    RX7
Sonible Smart Comp and Smart EQ2
Waves Vocal Rider and Playlist Rider
The rest tend to be internal Audition effects.

also Auphonic Multitrack for live recordings to cut the crosstalk
Fission for encoding and adding artwork/chapters

  2. I’ll give my four, but I have to say it all starts with RX 7…the BEST value for the dollar in my opinion, especially when you apply the discount you get from PES!!!

    1. Vocal Rider (Waves) – a must for editors and engineers, can be used live or in post, mono or stereo
    2. F6 Floating Band Dynamic EQ (Waves) – a dynamic, feature rich EQ for $30…bruh C’mon $30 bucks!
    3. Neutron 2 Advanced (iZotope) – get your mix sounding right, includes: Gate, EQ, (2) Compressors, Exciter and Transient Shaper with presets to get you started in the right directions
    4. LUFS meter – pick one, there’s plenty out there, you don’t want to be too loud or too low

  3. Like most, RX7 is always in use. Beyond that my four favs are Vocal Rider, Schepps Omni Channel, Neutron 2, and recently Necter3 — a one stop shop got vocal processing.

    1. Barry, I have been using the suite since I don’t want to spend so much, so I use ozone, nectar and rx7 or a combination of all of those.
