When’s the Last Time You Rearranged Your Studio Setup?

I haven’t rearranged my studio setup since I bought my iMacPro about 2 years ago. That was a significant change for me because now I’m sitting at a different desk as well as doing everything “in the box.”

But now I want to make one change. I want to bring my channel strip closer to me. It’s still on the old table where it’s been for 4 years and it’s a slight pain not to be able to see it or adjust its settings without getting up and walking around a table, etc. Hopefully soon I will move it closer to me onto the desk where I sit now, though I tend to mentally ponder and plan moves like this for A WHILE before I actually physically move anything 😉

So, when’s the last time you rearranged your studio setup? And what changes did you make?

  1. My iMac failed me a few weeks ago. I went out and got a Mac Mini which lead me to take one of my monitors out of storage. This whole thing had me setting up a new workspace on my existing desk. I also wanted my monitors in place and everything space correctly. I actually have my monitors at 45 degree angles because I was anal enough to bring out a combo square… I do have a couple tweaks to make, like getting the mixer mac, 2i2 and CalDigit hub off the desk, perhaps on desk shelf. We shall see. I’m using arms to mount c920 camera and ipad mini for Facetime. Arms are great – clamp them down and get them to hold stuff that would normally take up real-estate.

  2. I ‘cleaned’ by workspace a couple of weeks ago.

I looked at every box and connection and simplified it. Did I need a DX286s in the signal chain? Did I need two? Did I need a mixer? Outdoor a single mic interface provide enough? How many times to I use 3 computers at the same time? Etc etc.

So I cleared down to a basic set up. It gave me room to move and breathe.

I know it will creep back, but for now……
